Visa Requirements Overview

Most visitors to Tanzania require a visa. US, UK, EU, Canadian, and Australian citizens can obtain a visa on arrival or apply online in advance. The process is straightforward but requires proper documentation.

Types of Visas

Tourist visa (single entry, multiple entry), business visa, and transit visa. Tourist visas are valid for 90 days and cost $50-100 depending on nationality. Multiple entry visas available for $100.

Online Visa Application

Apply online at eservices.immigration.go.tz at least 2 weeks before travel. Upload passport photo, passport copy, and travel itinerary. Pay online and receive approval within 10 business days.

Visa on Arrival

Available at Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, and Zanzibar airports, plus land borders. Bring passport (6+ months validity), return ticket, proof of accommodation, and cash payment (USD preferred).

Passport Requirements

Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from entry date with at least 2 blank pages for stamps. Damaged passports may be refused entry. Ensure passport is in good condition.

Health Requirements

Yellow fever vaccination required if arriving from endemic countries. Malaria prophylaxis recommended. COVID-19 requirements may apply - check current regulations before travel.

Customs & Import Regulations

Duty-free allowances: 1L alcohol, 200 cigarettes, personal effects. Declare amounts over $10,000. Prohibited items include ivory, animal products, and certain medications. Photography equipment may require permits.
